Hunters who need to complete a Pennsylvania hunter and trapper safety course to get a hunting or trapping license can now earn an official Pennsylvania Hunter Education Certificate at http://www.hunter-ed.com.
Pennsylvania hunters and trappers age 16 and older now have a new way to complete their hunter’s education certification thanks to a new online-only course from Hunter Ed.
The Pennsylvania course offers completely Pennsylvania-specific information to match the state’s diverse hunting opportunities, covering such topics as tree stand safety, legal trapping of small game, firearm safety, and programs particular to Pennsylvania.
“The online course teaches the same Pennsylvania-specific curriculum taught in Pennsylvania’s traditional classroom course,” said Andy Hueser, Hunter Education Specialist for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. “People live increasingly busy lives these days. In recent years we’ve upped the number of traditional classroom courses we offer and have offered many more courses at peak times in the fall, and record numbers of new hunters have become certified as a result. However, the demand still exists, and some folks simply can’t make the time to attend a traditional course, so for them, the online option allows them the option to get certified and start hunting.”
The course, which is approved by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and meets International Hunter Education Association standards, features 11 units with fun and informative lessons. State-of-the-art award-winning videos and interactive learning tools make the course engaging and provide students with additional ways to learn this essential information.
Students must be at least 16 years old to take the course, which can be completed on a flexible schedule. Progress is automatically saved, and students can move through the course on any computer, smartphone, tablet, or e-reader. Upon completion, students receive their permanent Pennsylvania Hunter Education Certificates by mail in two to three weeks.
Hueser advises that the traditional classroom Hunter-Trapper Education courses will continue to be offered statewide in Pennsylvania in full force. Students can find and register for a classroom course at register-ed.com. The in-person option will also continue to be free of charge for those who prefer the classroom setting.
“We will continue to work to offer as many of these courses as we can to keep up with the very high demand for them,” Hueser said. “At the same time, though, this new option is going to be a better fit for some, and we’re happy to provide it, so they can get their license and the information they need to be safe before they get out there and hunt.”
